CARPHA weighs in – Zika Threat low

Dead mosquito with Zika Virus

Ok….this is a lose – lose news post.

There is nothing I can say that is positive about the Zika virus, or any virus…..

Mosquitos creep me out. Add a virus to them – and they make my skin crawl.

In a nutshell: Zika was detected in the Caribbean in 2015, (It’s been worldwide for years and there were 32,000+ cases in the USA) peaked August 2016 then declined rapidly by December 2016. The only good news here is that the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) just published a 30 month review of the situation and found that the risk of contracting ZIK V is low.

Recently I was living in Playa del Carmen, MX and I can tell you that the resorts and the Mexican government are taking any kind of threat to vacationers VERY seriously. Especially bug threats. They spray constantly in the early morning hours.

So to protect yourself by staying at a quality resort that has a reputation to uphold.

The last thing any resort wants is bad press.

And, don’t go take a snooze deep in the jungle without a case of DEET.

That is how it looks from the Back Seat…..
