You hadda been there……

That is what I say when people ask me about the Fairmont Mayakoba in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

There are very few resorts where you can become one with the jungle, yet have a stunningly beautiful beach right there waiting for you.

In A Nutshell:  The Fairmont Mayakoba, a AAA 5 Diamond resort is located within the famous Mayakoba Reserve, is a gated community with a few residential houses and 4 resorts sharing its 620 acre jungle paradise.   Ok…so I know this sounds like a brochure, but its hard to explain the tranquility of the jungle / beach setting of the Fairmont Mayakoba without words drooling off the keyboard.   This is a very unique resort.

Recently, our President, Chris Russo, spent some time with Ana Ramirez, the Leisure Sales Director, to get the skinny on the renovations completed at the Fairmont.

  • Chris:  Hello Ana, thank you for taking time to chat with me today.
  • Ana:  Hi Chris, thank you for asking about the updates at our Fairmont Mayakoba.
  • Chris:  You recently renovated your property.  Can you tell our readers a little about the updates?
  • Ana:  Sure, we are very proud of them.  We originally focused on updating the 401 suites and casitas with traditional Mexican furnishings from locally sourced materials with the Casitas getting floor to ceiling glass doors for a better view of the tropical forest and lagoons.  The soaking tubs allow in natural light but still give you privacy.  Infinity plunge pools and wrap around rooftop terraces were added to the Beachfront Casita Suites.
  • Chris:  What changes were made to  your dining experience?
  • Ana:  Our Executive Chef has increased the number of dining options to 10.  This includes the new Tauro Steakhouse, Bassano Italian Restaurant and La Cantina.  The Hix bar and La Laguana are new.  Our new beach club called Mayakana  features a very unique rooftop bar Cielo, the open-air Gaia Seafood Restaurant which has a beautiful ocean view and firepits for ambiance.
  • Chris:  We have been hearing about the all-new spa.   Is that completed yet?
  • Ana:  Yes, the spa has reopened after a total refurbishment.  Everything is state-of-the-art with a design that integrates the property surrounding using large windows and skylights to let in the natural lighting.  Guests can even choose herbs from our new botanical garden for their treatments.   We have a number of new treatments based on the ancient Mayan traditions.  The Cacao body wrap uses chocolate and the Copal – Mayan Purification features a honey wrap from the resorts resident stingless bees called Melipona.   For guests who want to honor an old Mayan tradition, a Shaman-guided journey of renewal is in the Temazcal heated domes.  Its a very unique experience.
  • Chris:  I’ve heard of your Symphony in a Cenote.   What is that like?
  • Ana:  You really have to experience it Chris.   It’s an intimate setting with 25-40 people who hear the sounds of a live symphony right in the cenote with the sounds bouncing off the limestone walls mixed with the cool breeze you get from the cenote waters.  It puts a chill up your spine that you can’t believe.    It is not part of the all-inclusive plan so there is an additional cost and there are limited dates.  But it is something you will never forget.
  • Chris:  Loyalty programs are all the rage these days.  Does Fairmont offer the ability to earn points towards a vacation?
  • Ana:   Oh yes, as a member of the Accor Group, our Live-Limitless Loyalty Program is a great way to take advantage of special member offers and what is happening at the resorts.  There is no cost so I highly suggest guests enroll on our website at Live Limiteless Member Programme.
  • Chris:  Thank you Ana for your time today.
  • Ana:  Your welcome Chris, it has been great catching up with you.
