Breaking: Airlines Offer Travel Waiver for 10/17/19 ‘Bomb Cyclone’ Storm

WTF is a ‘Bomb Cyclone’?   Can’t they choose a better name for a storm?   Here is how to tell if your flight will be delayed.

In a nutshell: Here is a flight map that shows delays at Major Airports   FlightAware   and here is a map of cancels and closures from FAA.gov.

Delta Airlines announced that the latest Northeast weather forecast may affect travel along the east coast and their announcement is for October 17, 2019.  United has posted travel dates of Oct. 16 – 17.   Check flight status frequently and get updates sent to your mobile device with Delta and United.  See each airline for full details.

Be aware that even if you’re in a sunny climate – your airplane may not arrive.

Affected Airports:

  • Boston, MA (BOS)
  • Hartford, CT (BDL)
  • Manchester, NH (MHT)
  • New York/Newark, NJ (EWR)
  • New York-Kennedy, NY (JFK)
  • New York-LaGuardia, NY (LGA)
  • Providence, RI (PVD)
  • White Plains, NY (HPN)


Delta Airlines:

  1. Remain on your current flight and monitor the flight status with My Trips on Delta.com.
  2. Change to a different flight.
    If you go with this, Delta will waive any change fee for a one-time change.
  3. Cancel your flight and apply the unused value toward the purchase of a new ticket.
    If your flight is canceled by Delta, they will contact you with additional details.

United Airlines:

The change fee and any difference in fare will be waived for new United flights departing on or before October 20, 2019.  Original ticket must have been purchased by 10/14/19.
