Sandals has plans to bring a Beaches Resort to Barbados but residents have concerns about public beach access, boat access, and local retail.
Sandals has held several town hall meetings regarding the $800M project. It’s estimated that this project could bring in $150M per year and approximately 2000 jobs to the weakened economy. It’s still too soon to know all of the plans as construction is due to begin soon with a proposed 2020 open date. Other residents, a Speightstown Pub owner and a Grocer, believe it will be good for the area’s economy.
Here’s the thing about all-inclusive resorts…. While we know that they offer everything you need from meals, to drinks, to activities, to shops and more; BUT many guests enjoy leaving the resort to shop, explore, ride a zipline, whatever….and after all, Barbados is the Birthplace of Rum! With an influx of visitors comes revenue and this could be an opportunity that’s been a long time coming for this area. This is the time to prepare for the rise in visitors.
