Look around and you’ll likely see a price increase in just about everything from gas to food and everything in between.

It’s no surprise that getting a passport has also increased in price.

In a nutshell: As of December 27, 2021 passports will cost $20 more for both a new passport or renewal.

According to a State Department Facebook post and tweet, “The increased fee is necessary to ensure we continue to produce one of the most secure travel and identity documents in the world.”

The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page. – Saint Augustine

For example, a first time adult passport book will now cost you $165 with $130 of it paid to the U.S. Department of State and $35 paid to the acceptance facility.

The passport fee for a renewal is $130.

The full pricing chart can be found at the State Department’s site.

It’s important to note that passport wait times still range from 8 – 12 weeks so it’s best to apply as soon as possible.

More info about Passport Fees can be found on the Travel.State.Gov site.
