Bring on the Salt and Lime! Celebrate National Tequila Day With Tips From Velas Resorts

Velas Resorts

“One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor.” – George Carlin

In a nutshell:   National Tequila Day is coming up on July 24th and Velas Resorts has tips and recipes for an ‘at home fiesta‘ to celebrate all things Tequila.
Tequila Aficionados
Expert mixologists from Velas Resorts shared their recipes for a Classic Margarita, Horchata Margarita, and a Hibiscus Margarita.  The Wheatgrass Margarita from Check PricesGrand Velas Los Cabos may be more desirable if you’re wellness-focused.  Or, kick up your morning coffee with the new Tequila Sunrise using Tequila Cream at Grand Velas Los Cabos, which is made with Blanco Tequila, coffee, milk, cinnamon, and anise.

Here are some tips from star mixologist at Check PricesGrand Velas Riviera Nayarit, Vicente Diaz, on drinking Tequila:

  • Use a medium to large glass – such as a champagne flute – instead of a shot glass, as the extra space encourages the oxygenation process and helps release the tequila’s natural flavors and aroma.
  • For your first sip of tequila:  swirl the tequila around in the glass to help the oxygenation process. After the second sip, inhale through the nose, swallow the spirit over your tongue, and exhale. This process softens the tequila’s flavor. (Editor’s Note: just don’t try to inhale and swallow at the same time – bad idea!)
  • Dining and Tequila Pairing:
    • Silver tequila pairs well with seafood, salads, or pasta.
    • Reposado tequila, which has a caramelized flavor, goes well with enchiladas and tacos.
    • Feeling spicy? Go with Anejo tequila as it will stand up to food’s spicy flavors.
    • Ultra-aged tequila is best paired with bitter or bittersweet foods or milk chocolate.
    • Gold tequila pairs best with sweet flavors or with high-fat cuts of meat.
    • You can also research what kind of tequila pairs best with certain specific dishes.
