Going to Havana soon? AA and JetBlue have your back.

Exploring Havana Cuba
Exploring Havana Cuba

Headed to Havana soon.  Gonna be a Dental Floss tycoon.

Thanks for that earworm, Frank.

If you’re feelin’ the need to explore down under  (the Florida Keys) we have some good news for you.

Both American Airlines and JetBlue are adding flights.

In A Nutshell:   More flights to Cuba are on the way.   Both American Airlines and JetBlue are increasing flights from 6 to 8 daily flights.   Stop and think about that.  That is a lot of flights to a destination most think are off limits.   The Obama-era rules have been reinstated and the restrictions loosened.   If you’re hankerin’ to go I would do it now before the masses start rolling in again.

Editor’s Note: We interrupt this regularly scheduled news post to bring you a breaking news update, we’re aware that Hurricane Ian left Cuba without power and with a lot of work to do to repair damage….but the Cuban people are some of the most resilient and resourceful folks around, we’re sure they’ll have their hospitality sector back online quickly and ready for the influx of tourism.

We now return you to your news.

I am half Canadian and half US citizen.

So I talked my Canadian half into jumping in a Yak-42 and flying through the Bahamas to Havana a few years back.

What I found was a wonderful group of people who loved practicing their Spanglish  (they are taught English in school but most don’t get to use those skills so they merge Spanish and English).

Yes, there were a few guys who favored drab olive-green apparel staring at me suspiciously in Havana.  But as soon as I left the big city and went to Veradero to lounge on one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, the staring stopped.

I found the hotels to be clean and the staff very accommodating.   They love Americans and their dollars (but not just for the dollars of course).

And, I did get to ride around for 3 days in a 56 Buick Roadmaster – which had been rebuilt using Russian parts.  (The Cubans are very creative).

The nightlife was an absolute blast.  The Cubans love to come out at night to sing, dance and live life to the fullest.

There are a few restrictions for American’s.

This is a good overview of  what is required to go:   Can Americans Travel to Cuba now?

So check it out……and if you get a wild hair to go exploring I highly suggest you go before the hordes from cruise ships descend on the cities again.

Saludos,

“I’ll warm up the Yak for ya”

~Jake

P.S.  If you want to blend in with other explorers then wear your favorite Canucks jersey, order lots of beer and end every sentence with ‘Eh’.  They will think you are Cuban.

P.P.S  FYI – Other airlines that fly non-stop to Cuba are Southwest, United, Republic and Mesa Airlines.

“FYI – Americans will be able to renew their passports securely online, saving time from having to wait and the effort and cost required to print, go to a post office, and use a paper check.”
